The 1993 biography “Gates: How Microsoft’s Mogul Reinvented an Industry” by Stephen Manes and Paul Andrews tells the story of the rise of Bill Gates and his company Microsoft during the early years of the computer software industry. The book is lengthy and does have several personal insights offered on Gates in the authors attempt to humanize the man deemed as America’s richest man. Manes and Andrews know a great deal about the computer industry and therefore this results in a great deal of detail about Microsoft and the industry and leaves less room for information about its central character, Gates.
