do not wish to discuss. These days, there are innumerable sources to which minors can turn to gain information on sex, but the question arises as to how much of
the information they gain will be accurate, and also convey the values that adults wish them to learn. This issue constitutes one of the major reasons why the State of
Massachusetts should require authentic sex education in the public school system for children who are twelve and older. Why twelve? Why so young? This is because children are becoming
sexually active at increasing younger ages and also because uninformed sexual activity in todays world can be deadly. Taking these issues point-by-point proves the necessity for mandatory sex education at
the junior high level. First of all, children as they are entering puberty, which begins to occur around age twelve, are always curious about sex. Their bodies are changing, as
their hormone levels and their interest in the opposite sex begin to rise. If the adults in their environment do not answer their questions, they will turn to their peers,
older adolescents and, probably, the Internet. All three of these sources of information are problematic at best, as teens continue to believe in misconceptions and the Internet, while a reliable
source for information in some ways, also contains sources that are highly inaccurate, out-of-date, etc. Children need reliable information that is up-to-date and is conveyed in a manner that also
indicates the values and behavior that adults would like to see children emulate. While many people will undoubtedly agree with this evaluation, they may also argue that authentic
