of New York and New Jersey," 2009). It was in 1921 that this governmental body, designed to oversee all of the affairs of the port, came to be ("The Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey," 2009). It was called the Port of New York Authority but the name was changed in 1972 to The Port Authority of New
York and New Jersey, a name that was a better fit and describe it more accurately ("The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey," 2009). Today, The Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey manages the tunnels, bridges, PATH train, airports, bus terminals and seaport that are important to the areas needs and capabilities ("The Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey," 2009). It is important to understand that New York and New Jersey have a very close relationship. Many people work in Manhattan and a good
number of the people commute from New Jersey. The region is often referred to as the "tri-state" area, a term that includes New York and New Jersey but refers to
Connecticut as well. This is a metropolitan area and the Port Authority helps to oversee travel and transportation in the region. The history of this organization is one that
