The ability of a firm or organisation to adapt and adopt new practices is often key to the survival as well as essential to increase productivity and efficiency. In this 22 page paper an holistic view of the way that different tools, concepts and models may be used in order to develop the operations of a manufacturing organisation to improve its overall output may be approached. The paper looks at leadership styles and how they will have a major impact on the attitude of employees and the culture of the organisation. Many companies have found simply changing management style to empower employees but still retain control can give many benefits. The paper also considers operational approaches such as TQM (Total Quality Manangment) and 6 Sigma as well as Porter’s Value Chain concepts that, if implemented with the right leadership and support from the employees, can help to add value to a firm.
