such as accounting, marketing, finance and so on (Encyclopedia of Management, 2006). Fayol said these functions were universal; all managers performed these functions or tasks regardless of industry (Encyclopedia of
Management, 2006). Each of the five functions of management include numerous activities: 1. Planning. Planning is critical to the success of any organization. It includes establishing a vision and mission
for the organization as well as the goals and objectives. In brief, planning has to do with vision, mission, objectives and goals (Fincham, 2007). It is about what the company
is going to do and how. Decision-making is a key activity in the process of planning (Allen and Gilmore, 2007). As Olum (2004) points out, a plan of action does
not exist until a decision has been made to make a commitment to it. 2. Organizing. When involved in organizing, the manager is making the necessary preparations for
implementing the plans that have been made. This function includes deciding who is going to what, the hierarchy of the organization, i.e., who will be reporting to whom, who will
be in charge of organizing certain departments or divisions or ongoing projects (Allen and Gilmore, 2007; Fincham, 2007). Another way to explain organizing is to say that it is establishing
an organizational structure and "the purpose of an organizational structure is to help in creating an environment for human performance" (Olum, 2004). In other words the resources of the company
