going to reach their goals. They are given a task or a project but they dont just jump in and start working on it. they spend some time planning for
the best way to approach it and the best way to achieve the expected outcome (McCrimmon, 2007). In other words, they know the what and they need to plan the
how. The how includes the best and most efficient use of resources, which include equipment, supplies, machines, people, and time. Managing people is one of the most complex tasks
the manager must do. Today, most effective managers know about motivation, motivational theories, and how to match approaches with people. Each generation of workers has been motivated by something a
bit different. For example, todays knowledge workers want to be appreciated. They also want to be involved in monitoring their own performance (McCrimmon, 2007). Even so, the most common motivational
programs are based on operant conditioning where a prize or reward is given for high performance. This is a behavior management process. Effective managers know that it is important to
measure performance and she knows it is important to involve employees in this process. Most people know how well or poorly they are dong on the job. The most
effective managers have excellent creative problems solving skills. They can describe, analyze the problem, identify its causes, develop possible solutions, select the best option, implement it and evaluate the result
