and Hemingways, The Old Man and the Sea, are considered classic stories written by authors with a timeless appeal. These stories have endured generations with consistency due to their
universal themes, which continue to provide poignant insight into the human condition. Both of these stories deal with mans struggle
against himself, which everyone can relate to in some capacity. We all struggle against ourselves and these stories, although vastly different from each other, allow us to glimpse how
others handle their own personal struggles. For this reason, these stories carry appeal to all audiences, regardless of education, ethnicity, background, etc.
In Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman epitomizes lack of direction, and reveals himself to live out an unfulfilled life. Most everyone can picture themselves in
the character of Willy, since we are all likely to fear our lives will pass without fulfilling our innermost dreams and desires. Like Willy, many of us may be
stuck in jobs we dont like or pursuing other ends that are not really consistent with our life dreams, and yet, still we pursue them. Like Willy, many of
us are perhaps afraid to pursue the thing that would make us the most happy but is likely to also be the most risky. We may fear the idea
of not being able to accomplish the goal we envision, or perhaps we feel a certain sense of responsibility to ourselves and/or others that prevents us from thinking we have
the freedom to pursue our dreams. Although our personal sense of fulfillment may not be as bleak as Willys, we can empathize with his situation, and can certainly understand
