against the vicious stereotypes that have crippled Black communities for centuries, have provided him a new generation of admirers. Indeed, there is a large part of the cultural crisis that
has precipitated Malcolms mythic return which is actually rooted in an ongoing quest in Black America: the search for a secure and empowering racial identity. More often than not, this
search has been conducted with a great deal of anger and confusion, on both sides of the racial fence. While Malcolm X had a great deal of wisdom and insight
to offer the African America, it has often been the case that his words have incited anger and further prejudice, both then and now, in the face of his renewed
popularity. While many others were arguing for racial harmony, Malcolm X was championing for black equality with anger and unforgiving rhetoric: "We didnt land on Plymouth Rock. It landed on
us, he said. And: After 400 years of slave labor, we have some back pay coming. Malcolm Little was the son of a preacher killed by racists. His boyhood
was unimaginably grim, and he was a coke-addicted burglar until his jailhouse embrace of the Nation of Islam. At 27 the separatist Black Muslim traded his slave-master surname for X
and began prescribing militance as the only cure for his peoples ills. Then a pilgrimage to Mecca taught him that all whites did not hate. His fury was banked,
and he split with the Black Muslims. If the ballot doesnt work, well try something else, he said. But let us try the ballot" (Anonymous Malcolm X 106). Malcolms
newfound appeal is clearly linked to the resurgence of Black nationalism over the last two decades. "Gusts of racial pride sweep across Black America as scholars retrieve the lost treasures
