has written an article in which he calls for a single well-known company to provide high-quality antivirus software at no charge, at least to home users. This report assesses
Vamosis (2004) proposal in terms of benefit to an antivirus company. Specific issues to address include (1) whether there is a connection between
home users and the companys network; how such a connection could affect the companys virus problems; whether other issues affect the companys network security; and how groups and individuals at

companys network. Access to the network is not limited to those working within the confines of the companys physical locations. Of course traveling employees need to access the

who travel frequently or not at all often work at home, using their home computers. They may do nothing more than read their email, but they access the companys
network to accomplish that goal. Still others may transfer files between the companys network and their home computers, work on the files at home and then transmit the files
back through the companys network. Lurking viruses resident on employees home computers have quite easy access to the companys network. Of course the company has active virus protection
to guard against incoming viruses, but the efficacy of that protection depends on the ability of the antivirus software to effectively, uniformly and perfectly prevent access to the network.
