mind? Idealist. Non-violence. Charismatic. Sacrificing. Change force. Interestingly, these very words describe Gandhis leadership styles. We can translate sacrificing to servant leadership and transformational charismatic and change force to transformational
leadership. Mahatma Gandhis birth name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born in what is now called Gujarat in 1869. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948 right after
he succeeded in freeing India from British colonialism. It is reported that Gandhi was always charismatic but, at the same time, he was analytical and very deliberate in what he
said and did. The people gave Gandhi the title of mahatma; it means great soul and the people also called him Bapu, which means Father, thus, Gandhi is identified
as the Father of India. Gandhi managed to be both those things to the people in India, to the people in South Africa and to millions across the world. He
was Bapu. He was not a great scholar but he did study law in London, England where he lived from 188 to 1891. This was one of his first
major breaks from tradition because he left his wife in India. He was married at 13. He returned to India, practiced law rather unsuccessfully and moved to South Africa in
1893 where he lived for 21 years. This is important because it was in South Africa that Gandhi began to practice non-violent protests. He had a horrible experience that had
