magic and enchantment in Shakespeares The Tempest. Magic and Enchantment in The Tempest Magic/enchantment comes into play when a ship at sea, carrying Alonso, who is the king
of Naples, along with his brother Sebastian and his son Ferdinand, and two others; Gonzalo and Antonio, is taken over by a storm. The storm, however, is not really a
true storm but rather something that Prospero, the man stranded on the island by many of the people just stranded themselves, put into play to seek his revenge. He tells
his daughter, who believes that the men in the ocean have been killed, "Lend thy hand, And pluck my magic garment from me. So... Lie there, my art...The direful spectacle
of the wreck, which touchd The very virtue of compassion in thee, I have with such provision in mine art So safely ordered that there is no soul...Betid to any
creature in the vessel" (Shakespeare I ii). This indicates that he set the storm in motion and ensured no one was hurt in the process. It was done in order
