of a country can be used in order to assess the level of development and progress of a country, the direction it is moving in and the opportunities that exist
within a country. In this paper we will look at the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE is not truly a single country but a federation where the members retain
certain powers. There are seven emirates; Abu Zaby (Abu Dhabi), Ajman, Al Fujayrah, Ash Shariqah (Sharjah), Dubayy (Dubai), Ras al Khaymah, Umm al Qaywayn (CIA, 2006). The ateas is
located in the Middles easttaking up an areas simialr in size to Maine in the US. The area boarders with the countries of Oman and Saudi Arabia and has
sea boarders to the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf (CIA, 2006). The paper will be broken down into three sections, the first looks at the demographic aspects
of the area, the population, the industries and the cities. The second part of the paper will look at the more changeable aspects that a government may seek to control
or influence, including inflation, unemployment, the balance of trade, foreign investment and urban development, womens rights and tourism. The last part of the paper will consider social and economic development
