in a hypothetical situation, asked Machiavelli for political advice, it is possible that his future reign would be quite different. George W. Bush began as what some would call a
buffoon--tripping over words, making faux pas, embarrassing the party--but emerged into what many would call a great leader. With his poignant speech at ground zero, shortly after the terrorist attacks,
Bush created a new image. He exclaimed with force that soon, the people who knocked down the buildings would be hearing us on their turf. His words were not hollow.
Indeed, his rhetoric would turn into reality and the U.S. would embark on a war. If President Bush, in an attempt to continue on his course of leadership asked Machiavelli
for advice, what might the great authors answer be? A student writing a letter from Machiavelli to the president, might create something like the following: Dear President
