tale of a man who must seek revenge of some sort in relationship to his fathers death. And, in Macbeth we are presented with the story of a man who
wants power and position, to the point where nothing else seems to matter. From these perspectives we clearly understand that these plays were "written by a man who was preeminent
in his understanding of human nature," presenting us with weaknesses, strengths, and above all perhaps, conflict (Delaney 67). In the following paper we present an examination of the two men,
comparing and contrasting their characters. Macbeth and Hamlet Macbeth and Hamlet are both characters which present us with some powerful conflicts. Hamlet is a man who is torn
to do the right thing, essentially sending him to the brink, if not the abyss, of insanity. He is determined, at all costs, to seek revenge of some sort. According
to Kozokowski, "Hamlets behavior is perceived to be influenced by the Ghost which has been evident in his self-accusations and manifestations of pride and revenge" (126). In this we are
presented with the powerful conflict which involves the character of Hamlet as a man who must righteously address the murder of his father, the King. Macbeth, while in a
different conflict, is a man who, for the simple sake of his ambition, is willing to murder his king and his best friend. At the same time, he has a
conscience that is so strong that just the thought of his crimes torments him to the point where even before he commits the acts he feels horrible as though he
