Three of the worlds most popular religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, share certain mystical properties, but it has to be said that the application and interpretation of the internal politics, feminism, impact of the enlightenment, and the various applications of the mysticism is what sets them apart. MYSTICISM DEFINED Mysticism is mankinds attempt to make sense out of the senseless. According to most clinical definitions, mysticism is mans attempt to connect with the divine; to experience God. A mystic, such as a person, is someone who has had this experience, has experienced God either by direct experience, or through various ritualistic practices. Likewise, in the three religions featured in this paper, the mysticism moves beyond the concrete worship of a deity to an abstract concept of a higher being and a higher realm of consciousness. According to through the use of ritual, alone, but transcends them to a personal experience unique to an individual. In other words, there is the God that one is taught about, and there is the God that one comes to know. The key elements in mysticism of any religion is a belief in something outside of ones self, a higher deity. Secondly, most mysticism includes one or more prophets or key mystics who truly represented the best of the faith. Lastly, mysticism, as it appears in the Fisher text, mysticism is that component of a religion that inspires behavioral change in a person.
