Less than 40 miles away from Indianapolis, Anderson nonetheless is a great place to raise a family because of its small town charm. Located in Madison County, Indiana, the population is 28,300, with the median household income (according to 2000 stats) hovering around $32,500 a year (CityData.com, 2005). The median house value, in the meantime, is $67,900 (CityData.com, 2005). The population is highly educated as well -- with 77.4 percent of the population having a high school degree and 13.1 percent having a bachelors degree from college (CityData.com, 2005). Speaking of education, there are colleges in Anderson as well including Anderson University and Indiana Business College (CityData.com, 2005). While these arent the big-name state colleges, towns with colleges tend to attract the right type of people. Furthermore, there are a variety of educational colleges within a 50-miles radius of Anderson including Ball State University (Muncie); Indiana Weslayan University (Marion) and Butler University (Indianapolis) (CityData.com, 2005). The people who graduate from these schools, marry and settle down to have families generally end up in a town similar to that of Anderson.
