low-paying work. Motivation of motel maids is a problem currently being faced by Western Motels, a franchise operation that has 12 locations in the San Diego area.
One of the main problems Western Motels faces is the high turnover rate of maids, which is currently three employees, per month, per hotel. Putting
this into perspective, the organization is seeing a 45% turnover rate per year. What is causing this turnover? Part of it is low
morale, which has led to low productivity and a careless approach to the job. This, despite the fact the maids are well-paid and have good working conditions.
In this paper, the writer has been asked to take on the role of a franchise representative who has been hired to help reduce turnover by
increasing the employees commitment to the company, and to help increase the maids personal commitment to, and pride in, their jobs. Walking in their Shoes
