the battlefield cry out for them, classical heroes invoke their name. Even in modern days, the theme of motherhood is alive and well. In the recent movie, The Divine Secrets
of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, three generations of daughters have suffered from the choices their mothers made. However, the long time legacy of hurt and pain, of coercion and frustration are
halted by the next generation as they come to grips with the daughters their mothers used to be. The Ya-Ya Sisterhood made
its debut on the silver screen. This movie depicts the lives of five young women as they grow up in a small town in the South. Growing up during the
infancy of the womens right movement, the girls nonetheless forge lasting friendships which are neither dependent on social gain, but rather built on common interests, goals and beliefs.
Through the story, a young playwright learns the real truth about her mothers struggles and what life circumstances have contributed to her eccentric ways.
In this respect, then, when one friend was feeling pain, all of them felt it, too. They all knew about each other implicitly and celebrated each others triumphs as if
each triumph was their own as well. They trusted each other and their friendships were continually nurtured throughout time by their adherence to a pledge they had made when they
were girls. That their friendships have lasted over such a long period of time also gives evidence to the fact that while
