This quandary, this anxiety of guilt and condemnation are faced on a daily basis. Though there are other anxieties that one faces, sometimes in addition to the guild and condemnation,
it has to be said that of all of the threats to the psyche, the threat of condemnation and guilt are far more traumatic in their nature. Non-being, or the
act of not living a courageous life has its accumulative consequences Tillich seems to be saying. After reading his thoughts on the matter in The Courage to Be, one can
see the inherent logic in this statement. A human beings self-affirmative abilities become endangered in the presence of extreme and applied anxiety. Moral anxiety seemed to have come into being
at some point around the Middle Ages, he claims. Fate anixiety(the fear of death) was a precursor to this, and lastly, the states, in the modern age, Spiritual anxiety has
taken hold. However, he states, all three are present in any one given lifetime. How did Moral Anxiety come into being, one has to wonder? If it did come
into being during the Middle Ages then it could, in part, be blamed on the emergence of the Church as an influential power in human life. Mankind was told that
they no longer had the power to chose for themselves, that their choices were sinful and lustful in nature and should be exorcised by steady and diligent study of religious
doctrines. Of course, since most people didnt read during this time, those who could read, meaning the Church, were only too ready to interpret the doctrine for them. Also,
