When I started the accounting program at the University of Phoenix, I had 20-plus years of experience in payroll plus a limited amount of time in accounts payable. Thanks to
both my years of experience and now, with the coursework at UOP under my belt, I feel better prepared to reach my main career goal, which is to become a
Sarbanes Oxley Auditor. My passion is payroll, I find it extraordinarily interesting. Furthermore, Im the type that likes finding needles in haystacks, as Im detail-oriented and very organized.
The close to two decades of experience Ive been fortunate to have has given me experience with an ability to multitask, solve problems and
research and retrieve information. Furthermore, working in payroll has put me in touch with a variety of different people who have a variety of different opinions and abilities; there is
no one-size-fits-all method for working with others. Having said that, good communication skills are essential when it comes to working with others
and solving potential conflicts. Part Two The positive aspect of the UOP coursework is that it helped me think outside
of the box. Its easy to get set in a rut when one is 20 years on the job - but the coursework, and my classmates, forced me to think
of other options when it came to different perspectives. The learning didnt necessarily involve what was "right" or "wrong" any more than certain situations in the "real world" involve right
or wrong answers. What the learning did stress, however, was the retrieval and utilization of available resources, as well as tapping into the resources and intelligence of my fellow team
