fossil fuels is a phenomenon that has been in existence for only a couple of decades. Higher prices at the gas pump (and at the furnaces), combined with the threat
of growing terrorism from oil-rich countries, are making other developed countries, such as the United States, Australia and Europe, are attempting to move toward societies in which use of fossil
fuels is substantially reduced (if not eliminated). What, exactly, are fossil fuels? Some people point to the gasoline that powers our cars,
while others note that its any kind of oil thats used to power much of anything. The answer is that both of these things are true, to an extent. Fossil
fuels include coal, oil and natural gas, and theyre linked by the fact that theyre non-renewable sources of energy (Fossil Fuels, 2010). Once these fuels are used up, thats it
- they cant be replaced (Fossil Fuels, 2010). These fuels share something else in common as well - they come from "dead carbon-based
organic material that has been deposited, compressed and fossilized over very long periods of time" (Fossil Fuels, 2010). Many joke that these fuels come from the remains of dinosaurs, which
is quite likely. However, there are two issues pertaining to fossil fuels. First, as theyre not a renewable source, once theyre gone, theyre
gone. There is a finite amount and, lets face it - the worlds population keeps growing. And second, when these fuels are burned to produce energy, they release a lot
of dirty stuff into the air, such as carbon dioxide, CPCs and so on (Fossil Fuels, 2010). This is stuff everyone breathes, and its been directly linked to everything from
