how these are present and used in a company that a full understanding can be developed as part of an internal analysis. .
These appear in many different formats in various companies, at Merck there are several systems in place; these include the process of introducing an ERP system (Gruman, 2006). This
revealed several weaknesses in the Merck systems, as it when linking the different departments it was found that there were data incompatibilities. This is currently an ongoing process as this
revealed the need for new data architecture. In order to ensure all needs are met the process, according to the executive director of information management, Joe Solfaro, that the
technologies that will be used to develop it further will not be decided upon until the architecture and data definitions leading TO standardization is complete, which is expected to be
sometime in the middle of 2007 (Gruman, 2006). It is also interesting to note that this is an approach where the focus is that of product information.
This process may lead to increased value in the company. The idea is that the ability to integrate the different parts of the companies and
their systems in order to create a single system that can be used to access the different software sources that can include all of the companys departments from finance to
