the United Nations During September 2000, the United Nation General Assembly met to consider globalization and its impact on lesser developed nations and
least-developed nations (Resolution, 2000). As such, the General Assembly introduced a series of resolutions - later known as the Millennium Goals - to target problems ranging from the "world drug
problem" to "undertaking the special needs of the least developed countries" (Resolution, 2000). The declaration was signed by 189 countries, and introduced eight specific targets on which to focus, which
would end extreme poverty (World leaders, 2010). The "deadline" for meeting many of these goals is 2015. To reach the goals has
required partnership between industrialized nations and LDCs. The question we ask, however, is how close to the Millennium Goals we might be.
Some consider Africa to be a mixed bag - Fleshman (2003), in writing about Malawi (a rural village in Africa), was a heartening example of Things Going Right. However, he
pointed out, sub-Saharan Africa, dubbed by Fleshman as the "worlds poorest and least-developed region" struggled. The idea behind the MDG was that
