such as military leadership and its relationship to American society, the special demands society places on its leaders, the ethical dimensions of leadership and responsibility that strategic leaders must share for establishing an ethical and moral culture in their particular group. Much of the information we will use for this paper comes from sources dealing with military leadership. How is military leadership related to American society? Military leadership, in its purest form, is the prime example of "classical leadership." In other words, when a leader tells his (or her) platoon to "jump," their response is "how high should we jump, sir?" This particular leadership style was so successful, it made its way into the corporate world for awhile. At the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, many CEOs of corporations employed this classical leadership style, surrounding themselves with "yes men" who basically jumped at every command. As the 20th century wore on, however, and as more women entered the workforce (and as much of the employment literature switched its focus from the importance of classical leadership to the importance of managing human resources), the classical leadership/military style in corporate America fell out of favor. This does not mean, however, that it still doesnt exist. In manufacturing plants, for example, where there are line workers, one can still find the military leadership style of management. Same thing in arenas in which there are life and death situations. Firefighters, for example, are expected to follow their leaders without question.
