Sometimes this is good, but more recently, the military chain of command has been exposed to some not-so-great coverage. In this
paper, we will examine some theories as it pertains to chain of command in the military, focusing specifically, where possible, on the Marine Corps. In terms of theory, the
military chain of command is geared to help the United States defend its citizens, as well as the citizens of its allies. This is why it is so important
for a solid chain of command to exist, and for this chain to be followed whenever it is feasibly possible. What follows is an examination of the chain of
command, and requirements for leadership in this command. Again, wherever possible, we will focus on the Marine Corps as our subject matter, though much of the leadership qualities also
pertain to the other three branches of the Armed Forces. Chain of Command - Marines In this section, we will examine both
chain of command and elements of command -- especially as it pertains to the Marine Corps. The current military organizational structure came
about because of the national security act of 1947 (Powers (b), 2004). Prior to this act, there was a different organizational structure, that was under the leadership of the U.S.
