its effort to claim a stake in the game console arena has been mixed, at best. Though it was first to market in many respects with its Xbox 360, being
first, and obtaining most of the market share, ended up being detrimental in the end. Design flaws in the system caused the system to crash and inflicted damage on the
discs. Consumer confidence in the system is at an all-time low, meaning Microsoft has some serious decisions to face about its future. It isnt earning much on its console, so
one option is even to leave the field to rivals Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft shouldnt leave the console field, as it does have
a loyal base of customers. But what does need to happen is a sea change - it should develop a new console and market it under a different brand name,
while contracting with outside game developers to provide a whole different library of titles and entertainment to entice consumers. Implementing such a strategy will take a great deal of capital
(not to mention a change in Microsofts corporate culture). But this is a necessary step for the company so it can restore consumer confidence in its products. Implementation of this
recommendation also means the Microsoft culture needs to change from one of infallibility into one in which risk can be assumed, and plans can be put into place to deal
