mind is a hotbed of political activity, ranging from outright violence to terrible upheavals. Yet if one were to look beyond the
volatile behavior of what goes on in this region, one would also see an area that has been "among the torchbearers of science, philosophy, medicine and art" (Mohitl, 2001). The
dilemma in this area is that people living here have to reconcile their rich, glorious history on the one hand with a very difficult present and future on the other
(Mohitl, 2001). This, as can be imagined, can create somewhat of an emotional and mental difficulty for much of the population, one that mental health professionals in this area are
trying to deal with. This is especially the case when it comes to mental health as it takes place in a group therapeutic session.
Among most Westernized nations, group therapy is considered a helpful adjunct to emotional healing - theres the idea that there is safety in numbers, and by sharing problems
with others who might be experiencing the same thing, healing can take place via peers. This is different when it comes to Middle Eastern cultures, however. The issue of mental
health (except for a few exceptions) is not dealt with very well in the Middle East, and therefore requires a differing model when it comes to group therapies among Middle
Eastern countries. In this paper, well discuss this in further detail. Though literature is scarce on specifics of group counseling in the
