manages in her poem, Childhood, to capture the fleeting essence of innocence while also offering a unique perspective on the human condition. Limits are for
the body, only. When one has ones imagination, the real can become imaginary and the imaginary become real. One could imagine sparkling clean rooms, devoid of clutter, of arguments, of
hurriedness, of weariness, and instead see pristine walls unmarred by crayons, dusted furniture still smelling of lemon Pledge, and rooms filled with brilliant, warming sunshine.
This would seem to be the sentiment in Stantons first lines in the poem, Childhood. She indicates that she used to imagine a different house, a place where some
of the distractions and difficulties of her life didnt exist. She discovered that if she imagined them to exist a different way, to daydream them the way that she would
like to have them, that she could be happy for a brief while. "I used to lie on my back, imagining a reverse house on the
ceiling of my house where I could walk around in empty rooms all by myself"(Stanton). Everything in this place would be quiet and still
and there would be no one to disturb you, to bother you about organizing, scheduling, cleaning, living by the rules. There are no rules. There is no furniture. There is
