this paper, were examining statistics and other information regarding the placement, opening and operation of a high-end restaurant in Nassau County, NY. Nassau
County is on Long Island and has a population of approximately 1.3 million people (Nassau County, 2006). The bulk of the population is white (close to 74%), with Latino making
up 10% (Nassau County, 2006). But what interests us more in putting up our restaurant here is the income per person.
In 2006, the Nassau County average income was $120,268 (Nassau County, 2006). This was far above the New York state average of $51,335 and the national average of $61,518 (Nassau
County, 2006). Now lets play with another statistic - according to City-Data.com, as of 2003, Nassau County had 1,122 full-service restaurants. There are
also statistics about limited service restaurants and cafeteria/buffet style restaurants, but for our purposes, those arent relevant. If we divided the number of people in the county by the number
of full-service restaurants, wed come out with approximately 1,160 people per restaurant. This statistic has its limitations; we dont know, for example, if these full-service restaurants are casual dining or
high-end dining. Still, if we assume that even half or three-quarters of these restaurants are casual dining, the restaurant we want to open looks as though it might be in
pretty good shape. To summarize, Nassau County is a good location for a restaurant because of its income per person and because there arent enough restaurants to serve the population.
