particular product. The product were using is a Netbook. A netbook is a notebook computer with an 8" to 10" screen (Definition of Netbook, 2009). The product is very light,
so its very portable, and its typically used for e-mail and general Internet surfing (Definition of Netbook, 2009). The downside of this is it cant be used for writing or
editing tasks as can the larger laptop versions. The upside, however, is that thanks to the netbooks Atom processor (which is much cheaper than the faster-speed microprocessors), these products retail
from $300 to $500 (Kharif, 2008). Though netbooks were introduced to the market as a secondary (or even third) computer in a household, the products are proving to be popular,
especially in a recession (Kharif, 2008). What would be the best media to market this product? First it would help to
understand the target market. We can assume that this market would consist of households that have a high level of education (at least a college degree) and that are fairly
affluent. These households would also already have at least one computer hooked up. The netbook wouldnt be the main computer, but rather, a secondary computer that is portable.
The current advertising focus for this product is television, as manufacturers scramble over each other to promote the netbook and to promote it based
on price only. Though the price is certainly a selling factor, there are drawbacks to the TV ads, unless this product is marked down below $100.
Some manufacturers also turn to print magazines, such as People, to market this product. Again, the visuals show the product in various degrees of usage
