marine forces were not perfect in their job, their efforts helped coalition political leaders achieve their strategic objectives. This paper will examine
some of the marine activities that took place during the Persian Gulf War and determine if indeed those functions helped secure a victory for the coalition forces. The Navy
did not fight this war by itself -- but as a joint venture with other Armed Forces. As part of a team, the Navy helped bring a successful end
to the crisis, despite some of the problems that plagued naval operations and efforts (Naval Historical Center (c)). Marine Execution A naval
presence in the Persian Gulf was not new during the 1990s -- between the establishment of the Middle East forces in 1949 and the outbreak of war during 1990, U.S.
naval forces have been responsible for protecting American interests in that region as well as developing international support for a American foreign policy goals (Marolda). The naval presence in
Persian Gulf waters achieve two things: it demonstrated the U.S. as a strong superpower that would protect its Persian Gulf allies, and because this presence was based in the water,
devout Muslim populations would not be offended by this sight of large, non-Arab air and ground forces operating from inland basis (Marolda). The Navys performance during the Iran-Iraq war
