of the nurse by offering alternative nursing strategies that lead to his ultimate presentation of a healing paradigm. Theme of the Book The student will note that the theme
of almost any book can be found within the first few paragraphs of any book. This allows the reader, reviewer and buyer to determine whether or not the book is
of benefit to them or applicable to the research being conducted at the time. The theme for Gordons book is that of a total health perspective, treating the whole person
and acting as a partner in that healing time, rather than just treating the body and treating the patient as a passive participant. For too long, Gordon seems to
be saying, patients have been looked upon as a sort of chasis for the human being. And, consequently, a patients body was treated, but none of the other aspects which
go into the make-up of a patient were addressed. He states that traditional medicine has ignored the mind/body relationship which is so readily evident in Eastern mindsets which, in his
opinion, has served only to stymie the total healing experience of a patient. Five Major Concepts Made by Gordon One major concept which comes from the reading is that
Dr. Gordon abhors the concept of a paternalistic view of a patient. Instead, when he was given the chance to test his theories, he found that when he entered into
