to a great degree. Though human beings can accept change in their personal lives, many dig in their heels and refuse to cooperate at work.
In attempting to find out the reasons for this, we undertook a search of literature dealing with change and change management and found many theories. Kotter, for
one, pointed out that many organizations regard change as a one-time deal, something initiated by managers with the idea that employees must obey because, in the long run, it will
be better for them. Kotter pointed out that changed needed to be embraced by everyone on the top level, and needed to ensure that employees understood what was going on
and the reasons for the change. Other authors point out various reasons for resistance to change, from understanding a change cycle
to not involving employees in the change. One author points out, as well, that management and the rank and file tend to regard change differently. While management sees the change
as an opportunity for advancement of themselves and the company, employees tend to see change is disruptive and uncomfortable. Once change agents can figure that out, this author notes, then
resistance will become less. In other words, there is a great deal advice on change management and managing resistance to change.
However, its up to the change agent to consider various aspects when it comes to change management. These include whether the change is necessary in the first place, how much
change legitimately needs to take place, how much the employee is involved with the change and whether small goals along the way are acknowledged. Above all, communication is very important
