Arent managers and leaders one and the same? Not necessarily. While leaders can (and do) manage as we indicated above, and while
some managers make pretty good leaders, there are differences in these two roles. In this paper, well take some time to describe those roles and how they can work together
harmoniously and for the betterment of the organization. First it would be helpful to lay out the definitions and differences between leaders
and managers. The basic definition between leaders and managers is that the leaders are the visionaries, the big-picture men and women, and the viewer of the final, and ultimate goal
(Ward, 2007). The manager, on the other hand, is the task-master, the one who shapes the leaders vision into reality through a
careful series of steps, goals and objectives. Basically, the manager follows in the leaders footsteps, and the leader is able to lead because of his/her vision to motivate the troops,
even when times are tough. The leader has the personality, skill and charm to get people moving, even if they arent feeling like it (Ward, 2007). The manager, on the
other hand, achieves the leaders goals through allocating jobs and using the skills of other people (Leadership 501, 2006). It is the
leaders job, therefore, to form the corporate culture and to motivate the employees within that culture. The leader is able to rally the employees even when the going gets tough,
and is the giver of accolades when employees do well. Leaders are able to inspire loyalty from almost every department because theyre honest. The truly great corporate leaders are also
