rough, wild kind) and that a strong, competent woman is in control. "50 Shades" puts to an end the idea that females are helpless or have no power over their
choices. "50 Shades of Grey" involves the story of tycoon Christian Grey (hence the title) and college literary student Anastasia Steele, who
enters into a dominant-submissive relationship with Grey. Whats considered appealing is that Anastasia is not your typical willowy, gorgeous, perfect romance heroine. Rather, shes described as a "klutzy, frizzy-haired university
student and hardware-store worker from Portland, OR" (Luscombe, 2012). The author, E.L. James, is actually Erika Leonards, a British mother who first
wrote fan fiction - "50 Shades," in fact, began its life on a fan fiction website with characters based on the "Twilight" novels; in fact, James initial stories on depicted
a very adult Bella and Edward doing things that were decidedly unchaste. James wrote the initial stories, entitled "Master of the Universe." She eventually took the story down and placed
it on her own site - and from there, word-of-mouth helped promote the book. The stories were offered for free, which makes this "rags to riches" tale somewhat compelling. At
this time, "50 Shades" is a trilogy and there is talk of a film being made. The interesting issue here is that erotic
