In this paper, well explore how the macroeconomic environment and news impacts the performance of China Mobile Ltd.s stock between 2006 and its current price. Unlike many stocks
that have had ups and downs in direct correlation with macro scenarios, China Mobile Ltd.s stock has enjoyed very steady growth - so much so, that there really is little
volatility in its movement. If there is any interesting phenomenon with the stock, its that it has enjoyed such high growth since 2006.
The companys most recent interim report indicated two major events: The Sichuan earthquake and the Olympics in Beijing. The Sichuan earthquake, which took place on May 12, 2008 ended
up impacting the stock prices (get this information). In addition to shocking the world, the report noted that it caused a great deal of damage to the base stations and
network equipment (China Mobile Ltd., 2008). Though the earthquake had a huge impact on the telecoom companys overall network, the event
had little impact on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange overall (International Herald Tribune, 2008). In fact, on May 13, the day after the earthquake, shares on that exchange rose strongly,
because Chinas central bank hiked its reserve ratio by a smaller than expected amount (International Herald Tribune, 2008). Between May and June,
