numbers of vehicles as well as facilitating increased speed due to that capacity. This type of development is one that will aid trade by allowing economies of scale to be
made as well as reducing some of the opportunity and direct costs associated with the transportation of goods on the supply chain. When looking at the European Union, especially
as it is now increasing by a further ten members to become a twenty five member union, where here there is free trade between the countries developments such as the
M6 toll road are able to encourage trade to take place at several levels. For trade to take place there has to be some type of transformation model, where
inputs are transformed into outputs. In most cases there are the need for physical goods. The location of facilities need to be decided upon the access to local resources for
the inputs. This does not mean a steel factory needs to be near the raw materials, but resources that cannot be moved
easily, such as labour need to be nearby. Resources that can be moved require the road infrastructure to allow inputs in and finished goods out. Rods may be constraining
factors, due to both their capacity in volume of traffic as well as the type of vehicles that can be carried. Where roads such as the M6 toll are built
there are rods that can carry a high level of traffic and also has the capacity for traffic that carries large volumes of goods. The increased speed also means that
goods spend less time of the road saving costs all around. This is also true when sending out goods, where they an be sent out in bulk rather than in
