The 1960s were a tumultuous time for our nation. Not only were we at war in Vietnam, we were at war
right here at home. In a nation that prided itself on equality for all, things were anything but equal between US citizens across the board. Several charismatic leaders
stepped out during this time in history to lead us towards a time when that would once and for all be rectified. Among them were Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr. and then President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Each of these men we was a great orator. Two of their speeches in particular stand out in regard to how
they impacted civil rights in our nation. These speeches are Kings "I Have a Dream" and Johnsons "We Shall Overcome". They inspired people to act, to transform our
nation from a place where many blacks were not even allowed to vote to a place where it was every Americans moral and legal obligation to insure that right to
vote. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of the more memorable figures from American history. He was also one of the more
effective when it came to inspiring people to action. Practically everyone has heard at least part of his now infamous "I Have a Dream", the speech he originally delivered
