believe at all, some temper belief with humanism, and some believe that the Bible is the literal word of God and everything should be accepted without question. This paper
will adopt an objective approach to the text, simply telling what happened in the story that Luke relates, without trying to interpret that story through the lens of subjective response.
The paper will briefly consider the story as a whole, and then break it down verse by verse, first writing out the verse in toto and then explicating its meaning.
Before that, however, it considers what a "pericope" is and how they are used to help us understand the Bible. There is very little text here, and so
every phrase will be closely examined for specific meaning; words that are unfamiliar will be defined. The paper will also explain any political or historical contexts or groups that
are important to our understanding of the verses. Introductory Matters The author: The author of the verses we want to consider is St. Luke, and it is
