two employees alleging that the management at Lowes required them to work before and after their normal shifts without being paid for working the overtime hours. Eventually, thousands of other
store employees stepped forward, claiming they were also being told to attend staff meetings before or after their shifts. Additional claims that were stated in the lawsuit suggest that these
employees had to wait behind locked doors until a manager checked their cashier tills and ensured aisles were properly stocked and cleaned. They also stated that their supervisors were not
providing them with uninterrupted rest and lunch or dinner breaks as required by law. Eventually, 55,000 current and former Lowes employees claimed to be victims of the stores wrongdoings and
wanted to join the class-action lawsuit. Attorneys spoke to about 1,000 of those 55,000 employees and took depositions from approximately 75 people. The story was the same for almost all
of those deposed. They all stated that they had to work off the clock for an extended period of time or they couldnt leave the store because the doors were
locked. Some question if false imprisonment should have been incorporated in the lawsuit because anytime someone is locked in somewhere against their will suspicions start flaring. Others stated they were
called during their lunch or dinner breaks to attend to a particular task or job. Ironically, Lowes, which is the second largest home improvement retailer in the world, did not
admit to any wrongdoings and believed their management was in complete compliance with all laws and regulations in regards to overtime pay. In fact, a Lowes
spokesman said the company contested the case throughout the 7-year duration, claiming they were in complete compliance with all state and federal wage and hour laws. He also added that
