While no one can live in fear of what may or may not happen in the future, those with a family history of hypertension should be proactive in monitoring
themselves and taking active steps to reduce and control their blood pressure. Desired State of Health The student could approach this section in the following way:
Currently, hypertension is more a problem of family history than of physical fact. My blood pressure has been checked at odd intervals over the years, and
the overall trend is that of slight increase over the last time it was measured. At this rate of increase, I am on track to live out my family
history of hypertension. My desired state of health is that which includes normal blood pressure readings on a regular basis, achieved through exercise
and diet and without the assistance of any targeted blood pressure medications. Other than my creeping-up blood pressure, other aspects of my health are normal as far as I
know. To my knowledge, there is nothing physical that should be able to hinder my achievement of the goal for normal blood pressure without the use of prescription drugs.
