Essay / Research Paper Abstract
An 8 page discussion of the feasibility of implementing low sodium diets for children. Contends that the regulation of sodium is a critical facet of any diet. In children, however, the benefits of restricting sodium intake are often controversial. Indeed, sodium is a critical component of a child’s physiology. Too little sodium can be just as adverse as too much sodium. In children with special dietary concerns, such as those with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, Duchene muscular dystrophy, Becker muscular dystrophy, and a variety of heart conditions, a low sodium diet is imperative. In most cases, however, the logic of a low sodium diet is highly contested. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
