It is a powerful story and one wherein a woman, Catherine, stands at the center. She has a love for two men, though the love is very different. The men
are Heathcliff and Edgar. The following paper examines the nature of the love that Heathcliff and Edgar demonstrate for Catherine and the problems therein. Love in Wuthering Heights
In the case of Heathcliff he has loved Catherine perhaps from as long back as he has known her. He was an orphan
and he is brought to the family to live with them. But, it is really only Catherine who treats him with any kindness, especially after Catherines father dies. She is
an incredibly flighty thing and is lured by the seeming darkness that is Heathcliff and he clearly takes this for love. In many ways one could well argue that he
is very much like a faithful puppy, loving her and expecting her to always be there for him and with him. Heathcliffs
love seems to come from a place that needs love in return. One could say that because he was an orphan he never really had a mother or knew a
mother and in many ways Catherine is that female figure for him. He cannot bear to let her go, cannot bear to live without her and is such a psychological
mess that he sill seek revenge in any way possible for the rest of his life because she has not openly loved him back. In truth, he is the major
problem for if he did not exist Catherine would have continued to go about her flighty ways and married for her particular class and lived like most women in her
