love. It is, however, perhaps not ones normal idea of love for it seems to be a love that pushes its way into the lives of two people. It may
not really even be love but that does not mean it is not an accurate depiction of love for love comes in many different ways. The following paper examines the
nature of love as seen in Lawrences story. Love in The Horse Dealers Daughter by D.H. Lawrence In this particular story
the main female character, Mabel, is a woman who appears to be relatively unnoticed and uncared for. This is evident in the first lines of the story: ""Well, Mabel, and
what are you going to do with yourself? asked Joe, with foolish flippancy. He felt quite safe himself" (Lawrence). The notion that he did not really care what she answered
is very clear and the other two brothers are the same for they do not really care what her opinion or her plans are, much less than they care about
what happens to her. She knows this as Lawrence tells the reader, "Mabel did not take any notice of him. They had talked at her and round her for so
many years, that she hardly heard them at all" (Lawrence). In these references it is quite clear that Mabel is essentially unloved
and she has long taken care of these men. With the familys money all gone and no future ahead for her she is desperate and alone. She attempts suicide because
she feels she has nothing. She is empty. This is when possible love comes along when a doctor saves her from her suicide attempt. While it is a relatively cut
