A. by Dagoberto Gilb. Some topics will include the plot, setting, point of view, characters and symbolism. PLOTS OF THE STORIES The plots of these two stories are
eerily alike although the stories themselves are quite different. Both stories tell of young men in big towns. One is in Los Angeles, one is in Manhattan.
The characters in these stories are both about the same age, and even have the same brashness, the same lust for what they want out of life. They feel
they have the world by the tail, their whole future ahead of them. They are both good-looking dashing young men and they know they are going to get whatever
they want out of life. But in Young Man on Sixth Avenue the character is a more wholesome sort; he is looking for a job, he has confidence, he has
very good looks and good character. He strides down Sixth Avenue with a confident air, fully aware that all of the young women look at him as he goes
past. As he walks through a quick, shaded area he feels a chill; this is symbolic of the things to come. But he continues on his confident walk, meets
his best friend for lunch, and they have a wonderful meal, the food is great, the conversation witty, and life is good. This young man has his whole life
ahead of him, and a glowing one it is, too; for he confidently marches up to an office for an interview and gets the job; they certainly see the potential
