existence. People have long been indoctrinated as to what is considered beautiful, a concept that is dependent upon ones own cultural heritage. That the standard for beauty from the
male perspective in America reflects a youthful appearance, certain facial features, large breasts and small waist, as well as a preference for blonde hair indicates a certain social norm that
people have been trained to appreciate. Furthermore, sexual arousal plays an integral role in the male perspective on lookism, inasmuch as the combination of visual imagery and physical stimulation
are reactant by nature. More than any other innate human attribute, sex resides at the forefront of mans desires. What is sexual
arousal and why are certain stimuli more effective than others are? This question dates all the way back to the beginning of mans existence but can be better assessed
when examining later periods, such as that of the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite. Aphrodite was the epitome of beauty. There can be no argument that she possessed the
necessary charm and delicate nature essential to stimulate sexual arousal in the opposite gender, which is clearly documented by historical images of the goddess. In early renderings, she was
portrayed as "clothed and formal" (Anonymous, 1997); however, in later years this image was significantly altered to portray her as one of the most important nudes in history. This
