Constitution worked to ensure the military would be under civilian control" (Garamone). The reasons for this are relatively obvious for a government that does not allow the military to take

The history/purpose of civilian control is, as mentioned, to keep control out of one particular branch of the government, in this case the military.
The founding fathers realized that if the military was the only body responsible for making decisions there may be times when the military became involved in battles that were less
than beneficial to the people of the United States. They would not have to take the American people into consideration. But, because the President and Congress are both involved in
making military decisions the people are taken into consideration and the people of the nation have some say, some power, in whether or not the nation goes to war.
In relationship to the possible dangers of having the military in charge of their own decisions it is noted how, "In the early
days of the Republic, before the concept of civilian control of the military sank in, some military officers actively plotted against the government" (Garamone). The military is crucial to the
