with very powerful issues that appear to touch many children who love her work. The following paper examines Lowrys life and her work, with a focus on her most famous
novel "The Giver." Lois Lowry "Lois Lowry was born March 20, 1937 in Hawaii to Robert and Katharine Hammersberg. Her father was an Army dentist and the family lived
all over the world" (DiNuzzo et al.). She was born the middle of three children. She stated "Ive always felt that I was fortunate to have been born the middle
child of three...That left me in-between, and exactly where I wanted to be: on my own. I was a solitary child who lived in the world of books and my
own imagination" (IPL Kidspace). She married at the age of 19 and had four children. Just before her divorce she states, "I returned to college at the University of Southern
