of the goods sold, perishable and temperature sensitive goods cannot be transported far easily, it can be costly and for long distances it may not be desirable for the
customers due to the suitability of many local suppliers. However, this does not mean that a well organized grocery firm cannot take advantage of the internet in order to increase
the catchments area from which it draws customers. When offering an online ordering service and delivery the limitations are dictated by the available delivery network and the capacity as well
as the viability of the delivery areas. The firm faces challenges to create such a network that is able to operate effectively, with the management of the internal supply chain
and the logistical arrangements. For the firm to develop an effective operation there is the need to consider a wide range of issues these include carriage and freight, storage and
inventory control, as well as the distribution, all undertaken in a way to minimise costs. The supply chain may be seen as the entire chain from the sources of
the raw materials though the collection processing, secondary process, logistics and supply through it the end user and even disposal in some cases (Mintzberg et al, 2008). There is a
general recognition that the management of supply chains tends to focus on the primary relationships between he company concerned and the direct buyers or suppliers. Therefore part of the consideration
