Logistics involves the movement and management or resources from one area to another, often as part of a supply chain. This means that logistics is an area of operations that
impacts on almost every area of the economy. There are a number of influences seen in logistics that are impacting on the way that logistics operations take place and as
such having an influence o the type of jobs and careers that are available. At the current time there are a
number of negative influences, which reflect the economic conditions with demand for logistics operations to become leaner, placing increased pressure on logistics managers to ensure efficiency as well as seeing
cut back in some areas, for examples there has been a significant reduction in the number of commercial flights. However, there will always be the need for logistics.
This increased emphasis on efficiency is seeing demand for logistics professional that are available to manage these issues, former transport managers are increasingly seen
as professionals and there is a high level of demand for logistics managers and professionals in a number of industries but those with the most demand include transportation forms as
well as wholesalers (The Logistics Institute, 2005). Positions such as logistics analysts are increasing in popularity as they offer firms value and the ability to create savings and efficiency in
internal supply chains. The increased use of technology, such as RFID is seeing changes in the way logistics are being handled, with
